Understanding Your OOU Post-UTME Score

The Post-UTME screening exercise is a critical component of OOU’s admission process. Here’s what you need to know about your score:

  • The Post-UTME score is calculated out of 100 points
  • For most programs, OOU combines your JAMB UTME score and Post-UTME score to calculate your aggregate score
  • The aggregate formula typically follows this pattern:
    • JAMB score (converted to a scale of 50) + Post-UTME score (converted to a scale of 50) = Aggregate score (out of 100)

For example, if a candidate scored 280 in JAMB and 70 in the Post-UTME:

  • JAMB contribution: (280/400) × 50 = 35
  • Post-UTME contribution: (70/100) × 50 = 35
  • Aggregate score: 35 + 35 = 70

What Happens Next?

Now that the Post-UTME results have been released, candidates should be aware of the following next steps:

1. Merit List Preparation

The university will now begin compiling the merit list based on candidates’ aggregate scores and departmental cut-off marks. Factors that will influence admission include:

  • Your aggregate score
  • Your O’level results
  • Your course’s cut-off mark
  • Available spaces in your chosen department
  • Catchment area considerations (where applicable)

2. First Batch Admission List

The first batch of the admission list is expected to be released within the next few weeks. Successful candidates will have their names published on the OOU website and will receive notification through their registered email addresses.

3. Acceptance Fee Payment

Candidates offered admission will be required to pay an acceptance fee to confirm their acceptance of the admission offer. Details about this payment will be provided along with the admission list.

4. Documentation and Verification

Admitted students will undergo document verification to confirm the authenticity of their credentials. Original copies of all submitted documents will be required at this stage.

Important Notice for Candidates

  1. Result Checking Fee: There is NO additional fee required to check your Post-UTME result.
  2. No Score Upgrade: The university management has made it clear that there is no provision for upgrading or modifying Post-UTME scores. Candidates are advised to disregard anyone requesting payment for score upgrades.
  3. Beware of Scammers: The university will never ask you to pay money to “process” or “facilitate” your admission. All communications from the university will come through official channels only.
  4. Subsequent Batches: Candidates who do not find their names on the first batch of admission list should not despair. The university typically releases subsequent batches depending on available spaces.
  5. Check Regularly: Candidates are advised to regularly check the OOU website and admission portal for updates regarding the admission process.

Special Consideration for Merit Candidates

Candidates with exceptionally high scores in both JAMB and the Post-UTME screening have high chances of being admitted on merit, regardless of catchment area or other considerations. The university places priority on academic excellence.

For these high-performing candidates, the university may provide special incentives such as:

  • Early admission notification
  • Priority in hostel accommodation allocation
  • Consideration for available scholarships and bursaries
